Photographers i have drawn inspiration from
Zun Lee -
Zun Lee's work inspires me through the honest and vulnerable emotion shown in his photographs. There is a raw feeling which accompanies his work. All his subjects look straight down the camera, creating an invisible relationship with the viewer. This connection allows the viewer to connect and establish emotions when viewing the photo.
Compositionally Lee's work tends to be up close and square, with the subject near enough central in the frame. He doesn't allow for any background distraction which puts all emphasis on the subject. Lee's work makes me feel my consciousness as the photographs are so real and true. i start tinking about times i have been dishonest and in a way makes me feel guilt. His work is powerful and has a way of connecting which is something i want to try and portray in my own work.
Andre Josselin -
Andre Josselin is another photographer from whom i have gathered inspiration from. His work uses a lot of rich colours and natural tones which connects with the viewer as the colours instantly catch the eye and draws you in. Personally i feel colour can take away from the image and in a way distracts the viewer from the emotion and feeling the photograph produces but Josselin's work has made me want to try the use of colour as you can see when it is doe right it can be very powerful. The way he uses contrasting colours and natural tones helps the images reach another level of beauty. These warm, rich colours to me portray love, lust and happiness which instantly connects deep within me. His work makes me feel curiosity as to what the subject is doing or going to do; they intrigue me, i want t know the stories behind the shots.
Danny Mee -
Danny Mee is a photographer which i have been interested in for years, his work uses strong blacks and whites, which creates a heavily contrasting image, this contrast and boldness invites viewers in as it exudes confidence. The deliberate and intentional black and white form a unique viewpoint and lets people see the image and the subject for who they are, theres no hiding. He also uses unique individuals to photograph, individuals who don't fit the mould of a conventional model or citizen. This in turn creates a 'slice of life' approach, which intrigues the viewers as they can study the subjects which they wouldn't be able to do when waking down the street. Mee's work makes me feel a part of a movement, like i have VIP access to a club which only certain people can access. This is due to the choice in model and the up close shots which makes you feel a personal connection.
Gemini -
Gemini's work has only just recently came across my radar. I was drawn in through the seductiveness and vulnerability that her photographs posses. Wether the photographs are in black and white or colour, they still promote the same feeling within me. There is a vintage feel which intrigues me but it is the deliberate positioning of the subjects which draws me in. The capturing of these positions is almost like they have frozen in time just for you (the viewer) and that you are getting an insight into that persons emotions and thoughts at that specific moment.
Matt Hans Shroeter -
Matt Hans Shroeter is a photographer which i came across on accident but none the less his work has inspired me to use forms and structures around to enhance the photographs. He cleverly uses man made structures in the habitat he is photographing in, to frame and add depth to his images. This technique allows the viewer to focus in on the main focal point easily. The pillars, walls etc. create leading lines which the viewer follows in and out of the image, which leads them to and from the focal points. Shroeter's work is technically very good and has influenced me to try and use objects and structures around to try and enhance the image.
Marco Klahold -
Marco Klahold is a photographer which creates intimate and personal photographs which provoke a sense of vulnerability and honesty. His images make you feel a bond with the subjects as you are often seeing them in a state of innocence or in a vulnerable situation. His photographs make me feel like i have a personal connection with the subject and for my own work i want to replicate this honesty and emotion. He uses light and dark very cleverly to create dimensions and forms and uses leading lines to draw the viewer in to the focal point of the image.
Morgan Tedd -
Morgan Tedd is another photographer which has convinced me to photograph in colour. The way he uses contrasting colours creates a visually intriguing and stunning photograph. I want to experiment with this as i feel it can have a really cool effect on the viewer as it instantly draws them in.
Oleg Skrinda -
Oleg Skrinda is a photographer which i have been inspired by for a few years now, his photographs posses character and charm which some photographers often fail to possess. Wether he is working in black and white or colour, his images always have a sense of personality. This is part to do with the subjects he photographs but also the way he photographs. his photographs are often face on, up close and focused on the subjects face; this allows the subject to own the space they're in and connect with the viewer. In my photographs i want to produce this level of character and individuality and allow the subject to speak with the viewer and own the frame he or she is in.
