chosen photos



These are my chosen photographs for my project - 'Individuality' and the ones i will be putting into my book. 


 Because i was photographing people which were so different and each had completely different personalities, i wanted to make sure that the photographs represented this. This was a risky decision to make as i wanted all my images to fit together as my own work and not to look like a different photographers work on each different page but at the same time i didn't want the subjects to all appear the same as they were all different. 

to tackle this i tried to keep similar coloured and plain backgrounds. i feel the images all look like my work as the framing, positioning of subject and colours are all similar, obviously not exactly the same but thats what i wanted, each of these people were different and if i had produced photographs which were all exactly the same it would have contradicted my project of individuality and would not have been a true representation of each person and i feel as a documentary photographer it is our job to portray as much of the the truth as possibly.

Lecture 2

l ast week we talked about how we can define documentary photography and all the different sub categories can fall under the branch of documentary photography. This week  we  looked into the 'roots of modern photography'. We l ooked at the roots of documentary photography so that our understanding of todays practice is rooted in an informed and critical appreciation of the past and how it worked. Through this lecture it helped inform us as we became  visually literate as we understood the language and the origins of documentary photography.  By studying the 'classics' of photography it helped us to understand where we are now in terms of the equipment available and the way the cameras have developed and work. It has also inspired me within my photography to go back to basics and try and shoot on film as i feel it will test my photography skills and improve me as a photographer.  The time period in  which we looked at was from 1930-1950.
